%X The use of vegetation indices to estimate Leaf Area Index (LAI) has been used mostly in commercial plantings Eucalytptus, but not at the experimental areas. The objectives of this study were: i) use of RapidEye sensor images to estimate LAI of Eucalyptus clones in an experimental area; ii) to check whether the red-edge band of satellite RapidEye, in vegetation indices, improves the LAI estimations. We used a ceptometer to measure LAI of 11 clones (plots) in a Eucalyptus trial of Project TECHS , at Estrela do Sul (Minas Gerais state, Brazil), to confront them with the vegetation indices NDVI, SR, NDVIedge, SRedge, these being last two with the use of red-edge band. The vegetation indices were efficient in estimating LAI of the different Eucalyptus clones. The red-edge band increased the accuracy of estimating equations of the LAI when used in the vegetation indices NDVIedge and SRedge.
